If you or someone you know is qualified and licensed to drive the Euro style busses, their help could be used to transport people from the base to Hacienda Las Beatillas in Puerto and also return them to base afterwards on Friday night October 10th. The ticket into the Ball will be provided for these volunteers. We would like to have at least three drivers.
Your support is appreciated.
The 2008 Navy Ball started bright and early Saturday morning. The weather was perfect, sunny with a great temperature. The double-elimination, one-pitch tournament had 8 teams turn out. Our first match pitted us against the Chiefs, with our second match seeing us play the Marines. Unfortunately, this time, we didn’t quite have what it took to win. However, we still had a great time and hopefully next time will have a better turnout and more support to cheer us on!

MWR is having an “End of Summer Bash” next Thursday, 28 Aug 08 from 1700-2000. They are looking for volunteers to help out and would like us to run an activity. There will be bouncers that need attendants, a parent/child obstacle course, face painting, and more. If you can think of an activity that you think would be fun for families, I would be happy to pass it along to MWR because they have a lot of resources and can set up just about anything.
Please let me know if you would like to volunteer for this event and I will send you more information.
The RFCA is trying to put together a team for the 2008 Navy Ball Softball Tournament. There’s a $100 entry fee and requires 15 person teams, so it costs under $7/person – and all the proceeds go to this year’s Navy Ball!
This is a double elimination, one pitch tournament, and registration must be completed by 21 August (Thursday), with the tournament being held this Saturday, 23 August at 0900.
If you’d like to participate, please either leave a comment or send an email to ABF1 Shannon Ritchey.
In case you haven’t already heard, all First Classes on base are invited to a barbeque at the First Class Mess on Camp Mitchell on Friday, 5 September 2008 at 1200. We’ll bring the burgers/dogs/brats/chicken and chips and soda; you bring the fun! If you’d like to bring a dish or dessert to pass, we’d be happy to have it!
In order to plan accordingly, please either leave a comment or send an email so we know how many people to expect.
All meeting minutes are posted on the “Meeting Minutes” page linked at the top of this page.
The next RFCA meeting will be held on 13 August 2008 at 1530 at our mess on Camp Mitchell.
Nominations for executive committee positions will be accepted at the next meeting and voting will be on 27 August 2008. Any member in good standing can nominate themselves or someone else for a position; however, if you will be nominating someone else, that person must be present and in good standing with the RFCA in order to accept the nomination.
Congratulations to the new Rota Chief Selectees!

National Night Out, an event that promotes safety awareness and crime and drug prevention, was held on 5 August 2008. The RFCA registered kids with the “Identi-kid” booth, fingerprinting children on base and providing their families a tool to keep on record with pertinent information in the event something would happen to their children. It was a lot of fun and was a great opportunity to show our support for the community here in Rota. Thanks to MA1 Dave Farnsworth for organizing this event and to the volunteers that helped out!
